Jason Farrow

The Bout
District 01, Surry Hills
16-18th March, 2017
An art boxing show by Jason Farrow and Jonathon Earl de Pyper.
As it often does over a beer, the argument sprung forth between emerging Sydney artists Jason Farrow and Jonathon de Pyper concerning the dilemma of where their practices should sit within the current art climate: Should they lean towards pure abstraction or maintain a grip on the representational?

The pub pitch would be “abstraction or realism”.

In an attempt to answer this question, the show provides examples from both artists as they take inspiration from each other to create the works.
In the Pollock corner Jason’s work has traditionally encapsulated a stream- of-consciousness form of creation. In the Caravaggio corner Jonathon’s work has previously embodied a representational way of production.

The human form is a classic art subject matter. So what better platform for this classic art argument?

Each created 8 works, as well as joining together to collaborate on two final pieces. In the end there of course is no wrong or right.
Or is there? Fight!
